Kota Heritage Park

About Kota Heritage Park
Kota Heritage Park, also known as Fort of Kota Park, is a historically significant site located at the northernmost tip of Bantayan Island in Madridejos municipality. The park's origins trace back to the 1880s when this location served as a Spanish fortress, acting as a crucial watchtower against Moro pirates during the Spanish colonial era. The watchtower was constructed around 1839 to fortify the island against raids, providing a vantage point to spot approaching invaders and give timely warning to townsfolk. The surroundings of the original fort were once a cemetery, later converted into the scenic park visitors enjoy today. The park marks 'Lawis' - literally the tip of Bantayan Island - making it geographically significant as well. Today, the park features several attractions: the historic watchtower ruins, the iconic Bontay Walk (an elevated walkway consisting of 591 planks), and a 187-meter concrete footbridge leading to a floating balcony over the sea. The park is renowned as one of the best sunset viewing spots on Bantayan Island, offering unobstructed views over the Visayan Sea as the sun dips below the horizon.
