Immaculate Conception Church

About Immaculate Conception Church
The Immaculate Conception Church, also known as Oslob Church, is a National Cultural Treasure and one of the finest examples of Spanish colonial religious architecture in southern Cebu. Construction began in 1830 and was completed 18 years later in 1848, making it one of the older churches in the province. The church was built using coral stones, a common building material in coastal Cebu during the Spanish period. Its imposing facade faces east toward the Cebu Strait, with the hexagonal bell tower rising prominently beside the main structure. The church interior features religious icons and artwork that have been preserved through various renovations, including repairs after a fire in the 1950s. The church serves as the centerpiece of the Oslob Heritage Park complex, which also includes the Cuartel Ruins, the Baluarte watchtower, and the municipal plaza. The heritage zone represents a classic Spanish colonial town layout - the church as spiritual center, government buildings for administration, and defensive structures to guard against seaborne attacks.
