About Airplane Wreck Dive Site

The Airplane Wreck is one of Moalboal's most unique dive sites - a complete, intact two-seater aircraft resting on a sandy slope at 20 meters depth. The plane was donated by LancAir, an American aircraft manufacturer, and intentionally sunk by Savedra Dive Center in 1993 as an artificial reef project. Over the decades, the airplane has become colonized by corals and marine life, creating a fascinating blend of man-made structure and natural reef. The wreck sits at the edge of a wall that drops to 50 meters, offering divers an interesting combination of wreck diving and wall diving. Local divemasters occasionally report finding sea turtles inside the cockpit, claiming the pilot's seat - making for incredible photo opportunities.
